Udupi, Jun 4: Karnataka Rakshana Vedike came out in support of the proposed move by police constables to go on mass leave on Saturday June 4 near Ajjarkadu.

"The  police constables should be given salaries on par with the police constables in the neighbouring States. Nearly 50 per cent of posts of police sub-inspectors and reserve sub-inspectors should be reserved for police constables in service. The Arogya Bhagya should be extended to the police constables both during service and after their retirement," said Sandeep Kumar, retired police constable.

"They should be given full day’s salary if they are asked to work on a weekly off. Travelling Allowance should be increased to at least Rs 300. Travelling Allowance should be increased if the police constables were travelling to Bengaluru and to places outside the State," he added.

"The police quarters should be repaired at least annually. The police ration facility should be made available even after retirement," said KRV district president Ravi Shetty.

"The orderly system where by police constables work in the houses of senior police officers and elected representatives should be done away with. Very often, these orderlies were given menial tasks, which was demeaning. Constables should not be suspended for small issues. If there was any serious issue, they should be suspended after getting permission from courts. They should be provided free medical tests and consultation in the best of the hospitals," he added.

A memorandum supporting the demands of the police constables was submitted to the Deputy Commissioner.

Zilla Nagarika Samiti, Ravi Shetty, head of Karmikara Vedike, and Gourishankar, retired assistant sub-inspector of police, were also present.
